Make Your Own Miniature Kitty Cat!

Begin by cutting all of your felt pieces as directed by the last page of the pattern. The easiest way to cut felt is with a small sharp pair of scissors. For the greatest precision you could choose to trace the pattern pieces onto the felt, iron some wax paper to the felt then trace onto that and cut, or tape the pattern pieces to the felt with some wide clear tape, cutting through both tape and felt simultaneously. For those of you with personal cutting machines, I’ve added cutting files to your download bundle to upload and cut by machine.

Feel free to get creative in cutting the pattern from different colors! Here I created a pink tiny cat with a
white under belly. You’ll want to cut 2 pieces for the main body of the cat,2 ears, one piece for the front of the face/head, an one piece for the under belly.
Next you’ll add some eyes to the kitty. I’ve installed a tiny set of 2 mm doll eyes with posts and washers.
Alternatives to plastic safety eyes would be seed beads or simple stitch in eyes with thread.

To install the black plastic doll eyes I first mark the spot where I want the eye to sit. Poke a very small hole to
insert the post through, then fit the washer over the back. The washer should hold the eye on from the inside of the cat. Because the cat is so tiny, I sometimes clip part of the washer away to make it smaller to fit onto the piece of felt.

Hopefully most of you have a good spirit of humor! In the spirit of Neko Atsume, and real cats everywhere, I
couldn’t help but sew in a tiny butt-hole. Sorry, not sorry!

To add your own teeny tiny kitty butt hole, there’s nothing to it. Simply sew in a tiny little pink X at the tip of the Underbelly piece. If you’re using embroidery thread I recommend splitting the thread down to one or two threads.

Next to add some whiskers! This part is a bit tricky, but well worth the effort as the whiskers are so incredibly cute!

To create the whiskers I used black embroidery thread. Start by splitting a small length of embroidery thread into 2, three stands each. Make a knot at the end of each of the two pieces. Next split the knotted pieces so they are 3 separate threads held together by the knot at the end.

Thread a needle with one piece of the three and send it through the front of the kitty’s face from the inside out.
Do this two more times in slightly different spots. It may be easier to leave the whiskers long until the kitty is
finished. This way it will be easier to hold them into place. They can be trimmed at the end once the cat is
stuffed.

To begin sewing, match the Underbelly piece to one side of the Main body pieces, pinning at the legs. Begin
stitching from the front of the face toward the back. I like to use a very short, tight blanket stitch, or a very tight whip stitch. Sew the kitty from the face to the base of the tail, then tie of your thread from the inside.
Match the opposite side of the body to the other half of the Underbelly piece, again pinning at the legs.

Begin stitching at the top of the back, base of the tail, moving towards the back of the cat and up the tail.
when you get just over the bend of the tail it’s time to cut a small piece of wire for the inside of the tail. I like to use a small piece of pipe cleaner. But because the kitty is so tiny, it is necessary to trim most of the fuzz
off in order to fit it inside of the tail.

Insert the wire into the tip of the tail and along the tail, folding it inwards into the body of the cat. Continue
stitching down the back of the tail holding the wire inside. Continue stitching along the back of the cat, along the legs to the front of the face.

Here is a good point to stop and stuff the legs of the cat. Optionally you could insert wire into the legs as
well for added stability but it’s not necessary. The best way to stuff the legs is to ball up very small bits of toy stuffing and gently push it down into the legs with a toothpick. Continue stuffing until all four legs are full and then into the body of the cat a little.

Match the Front Head piece to one side of the Main body piece starting at the tip of the nose. Stitch along the edge to the end of the piece ending at the back of the head.

Begin sewing once again at the tip of the nose, this time stitching the opposite side of the face on. When you reach about a third of the way along the Face piece, stop to sew in the cat’s nose.
To do this, split some embroidery thread down to 2-3 strands. Knot one end. Thread a needle with the split
thread and send the tip into the head and out one side of the tip of the face. Make 2-3 stitches back and forth over the tip of the face to create the nose.

Stuff the rest of the kitty through the small opening on the top of the head. Continue stitching until there is only about a 1/4” left open. Stuff any remaining stuffing needed and sew the last opening shut.
Pin the ears in place and stitch onto the kitty with a tight neat whip stitch.
